Interventional Radiology (IR) is a medical sub-specialty that utilizes medical imaging (such as X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI) to perform minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat diseases throughout the body.

Rather than relying on traditional, "open" surgery, interventional radiologists use tiny instruments—such as catheters, wires, and needles—guided by real-time imaging to reach the exact area of concern inside the body.
