Surveillance, Bio-Safety & Healthcare-Associated Infection Prevention

Mandate & Objectives

The Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC) at Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences & Hospital functions as the core multidisciplinary body responsible for developing, monitoring, and enforcing clinical infection prevention policies across all inpatient wards, operation theatres, intensive care units, and diagnostic laboratories.

  • To minimize the incidence of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) among patients, healthcare workers, and hospital visitors.
  • To conduct continuous epidemiological surveillance of device-associated infections (CAUTI, CLABSI, VAP) and surgical site infections (SSI).
  • To formulate and implement evidence-based antimicrobial stewardship programs (AMSP) to curb antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
  • To supervise sterilization and disinfection procedures in CSSD, Operation Theatres, Dialysis units, and general inpatient wards.
  • To ensure strict compliance with Bio-Medical Waste (BMW) management guidelines and staff occupational health protocols.
