Profile of the Nursing Principal

Prof. Puspa Ghosh is a true leading female role model in today's era of nursing. Her well-versed experience in the practical field and her profound educational background have helped her touch the peak of success, driving the continuous development of our academic nursing ecosystem.

She initiated her foundational clinical journey with the GNM course via the Lady Dufferin Memorial Hospital. Advancing her academic trajectory, she earned her B.Sc. Nursing from the College of Nursing (SSKM Hospital Campus) in 1987. Guided by an enduring spirit of inquiry, she completed her post-graduation (M.Sc. Nursing in Gynaecological & Obstetrical Nursing) from the College of Nursing, Calcutta Medical College & Hospital, in 2010.

Prof. Ghosh has accumulated a wealth of specialized knowledge across various tiers of the state healthcare system. She initially stepped into her professional career as a Supervisor of Nurses at SSKM Hospital. Gradually, she moved to Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital as a Ward Sister, and then transitioned to role as a Sister Tutor at Ranaghat Sub-Divisional Hospital in Kalyani, Nadia.

Between 1993 and 2000, she served as a Sister Tutor at Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital before taking on similar educational responsibilities at NTS Berhampore, Murshidabad. Her seasoned administrative capacities led her to roles as Deputy Nursing Superintendent at Berhampore District Hospital and Dr. B.C. Roy Post Graduate Institute of Paediatric Science.

Her rapid professional advancement culminated in top-tier administrative appointments, where she served as Deputy Assistant Director of Health Services at Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata, followed by her leadership position as Assistant Director of Health Services (Nursing) until 2017. Her multi-faceted career and rich practical experience form an invaluable sea of knowledge that serves to nurture, anchor, and inspire our nursing students at JIMSH.
